Marquette to Host Women's Soccer Spring Tournament

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team will close out its spring season at home on Saturday, April 27, hosting a four-team invitational at Valley Fields. The teams joining Marquette in the Marquette Women's Soccer Spring Tournament are Northwestern, Wis.-Green Bay and Wis.-Milwaukee.
The four game tournament will kick off at 1 p.m. with the host Golden Eagles taking on Northwestern. At 2:40 p.m., the two Wisconsin schools - Milwaukee and Green Bay - will meet. After a short break, Northwestern will take on Wis.-Green Bay at 4:40 p.m. In the concluding match of the tournament, cross-town rivals Marquette and Wis.-Milwaukee will meet at 6:10 p.m.
All matches in the Marquette Women's Soccer Spring Tournament are scheduled for two 40 minute halves with a 10 minute halftime break. In case of inclement weather, all matches will be held as scheduled, but on the turf fields at the Valley Fields complex.
MU will be playing its 11th and 12th match of the spring season. The Golden Eagles are coming off a win in their most recent match, a 3-2 victory at Wis.-Green Bay on April 17. Marquette owns a 5-4-1 record in the spring, with two victories over Wis.-Milwaukee on March 2. The Golden Eagles also took on perennial power Notre Dame and the Mexican National Team in the spring.
Marquette is coming off a 16-6 campaign in 2001 in which it advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. The Golden Eagles will open the 2002 season on Friday, Aug. 30 against Ohio University at Valley Fields.
