Milwaukee -- Marquette University Head Basketball Coach Tom Crean will be a recipient of the Milwaukee Press Club's 2001 Headliner Award when that organization holds its annual Gridiron Dinner on Saturday, May 11, at the Northern Lights Theatre at the Potawatomi Bingo Casino.
Crean led the Golden Eagles to an overall record of 26-7 during the 2001-02 campaign, the most wins by a Marquette program since the 1975-76 season. In addition, he guided the program to its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1997 and was recognized as Conference USA Coach of the Year. Marquette ended the regular season ranked 12th nationally by the Associated Press.
The Gridiron Dinner honors local journalism award winners and the Sacred Cat. The Sacred Cat is a journalist recognized for accomplishment in the field. This year's winner is Paul Gigot, editorial page editor of the Wall Street Journal.
