Marquette women's basketball assistant coach Kevin McManaman has resigned to accept the top assistant spot at Ill.-Chicago, Marquette head coach Terri Mitchell announced. McManaman, a native of LaGrange, Ill., will start at Ill.-Chicago on June 10. His time at Marquette will conclude on May 31.
"Kevin was a great asset to our program," Mitchell said. "He brought an energy and an enthusiasm to the position that we will miss. However, I am excited for him in that he gets to return home and continue to develop his career. We are very happy that we had Kevin as part of the Marquette Basketball family for two seasons."
McManaman served in two different roles for the Golden Eagles. He was hired by Mitchell prior to the 2000-01 season to serve as the special assistant for the program. Last season, McManaman was promoted to an assistant coach.
In addition to on-the-court coaching duties, McManaman was responsible for scouting, coordinating on-campus recruiting visits, directing the practice squad and coordinating video editing. In his season as the special assistant, McManaman coordinated travel arrangement and planning and assisted in scouting.
"My experience at Marquette has helped me grow into a better coach," McManaman said. "The experience I gained from a great leader in Terri Mitchell as well as all the other assistants have made me a better. I've learned what it takes to be very good in Division I. With UIC, I get a chance to get to where my whole family is. It's a great opportunity for me and I'll know I will be able to grow as a coach there as well."
Prior to Marquette, McManaman spent eight seasons as an assistant women's basketball and softball coach at St. Mary's (Minn.) College. He helped guide the St. Mary's softball squad to an NCAA Division III national championship in 2000.
McManaman is a 1992 graduate of St. Mary's, earning a degree in communications. He earned seven varsity letters - one in basketball, three in baseball and three in cross country - as an undergrad. He earned a master's degree in sports administration from Wis.-LaCrosse in 1998.
