MILWAUKEE - Michelle Nason, an assistant coach with Marquette women's basketball for six seasons, returns as an assistant coach after a one year absence. Nason replaces Kevin McManaman, who left Marquette to take a position as the top assistant at Ill.-Chicago.
"We are so glad to have Michelle back in our program," head coach Terri Mitchell said. "With Michelle knowing our program like she does, we don't miss a beat with the transition from Kevin to her. While we are excited for Kevin and his new position, we are just as thrilled to have Michelle back. During her one year at Saint Louis, she gained even more of a focus and determination that is exciting to be around."
Nason spent the last season as an assistant at Saint Louis University, where she was involved in scouting, recruiting and had on-court coaching responsibilities. In returning to Marquette, Nason will have the opportunity to be heavily involved in all aspects of the basketball program.
"I am extremely excited to be back at Marquette University," Nason said. "I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by a great coaching staff, support staff and an enthusiastic team. I look forward to advancing my coaching career at a University I love to work for."
A 1995 graduate from Bradley University, Nason made her coaching debut in 1995 with Marquette. She spent the next six years as an assistant at MU, five under Mitchell, aiding in scouting, coaching, on-campus recruiting and summer camp coordination. Her duties at Marquette will be similar, with the exception of the added responsibility of off-campus recruiting.
A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Nason played her first two collegiate seasons at Western Illinois before transferring to Bradley. As a senior or Bradley, she averaged 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists. She finished her four-year career with 1,597 points.
At Western Illinois, Nason was the team's leading scorer as a freshman and sophomore. As a freshman, she averaged 13.7 points as well as 49.5 percent from three-point land, which placed her in the top five in the nation. She was named to the 1991 Freshman All-American team by Fast Break magazine.
Nason's appointment is effective immediately.
