MATCH INFO - The Marquette volleyball team opens Conference USA action this Saturday (Sept. 28) when it plays at East Carolina. Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum will serve as the site for the second-ever meeting between Marquette and East Carolina and the match will begin at 6:00 p.m. (CST).
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by first-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, '92) who was appointed to her current position on May 10, 2002. Heading into this weekend, Rolf has a 15-year career won-lost slate of 318-173 including an 8-4 effort at Marquette. She joined the Golden Eagles following a successful 14-year career at Minnesota-Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
East Carolina Head Coach Colleen Munson (Texas Arlington, '93) is in her fourth season at the helm of the Pirates' program and checks in with a school and career record of 28-44 heading into a Friday match vs. UNC-Greensboro.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette claims an overall record of 8-4 following its performance at the IPFW Invitational last weekend in Fort Wayne, Indiana. MU opened the tourney with a three-game sweep against Western Illinois (30-20, 30-21, 30-17) before dropping a three-game decision to Wright State (20-30, 25-30, 26-30). In their final match of the weekend, the Golden Eagles topped host IPFW in four games (23-30, 30-21, 30-26, 32-30).
East Carolina posts a 3-10 won-lost ledger heading into its Friday match against UNC-Greensboro. ECU ended a five-match losing streak on Tuesday (Sept. 24) when it topped Campbell in four games.
SERIES NOTES - Marquette holds a 1-0 edge in the all-time series with the Golden Eagles registering a three-game triumph in the initial meeting last year in Milwaukee.
MARQUETTE RETURNS HOME NEXT WEEKEND -- Marquette will open the home portion of the Conference USA schedule next weekend when it hosts Louisville on Friday (Oct. 4) and defending regular-season champion Cincinnati on Saturday (Oct. 5). Both matches will be played at the Marquette Gym starting at 7:00 p.m. (CST).
SHANNON DEVINE & DANIELLE HAGEN EARN ALL-TOURNEY HONORS AT IPFW INVITATIONAL -- Senior Danielle Hagen (Milwaukee) and sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) both brought home all-tournament honors at the IPFW Invitational. Hagen totaled 34 kills and hit 33.3 percent (34-11--69) over the weekend while coming up with 28 digs. She came up with double-figure attacks in two of the matches including a career-high 17 in the win over IPFW. Devine notched 29 kills in the three matches and recorded a career-high 12 blocks in the IPFW contest. Devine paced the team with 16 attacks and hit a career-best 75 percent (16-1--20) vs. Western Illinois in the opening match of the tourney.
MARQUETTE PLAYER & TEAM NOTES - Through matches played Sept. 24, Shannon Devine ranked 10th among C-USA players in hitting percentage (.285) ... Devine's 12 blocks against IPFW represent the second-highest total by a C-USA player this season ... Hagen's 17-kills, 15-digs performance vs. IPFW marked her third double double of the year ... Hagen enters the upcoming weekend seven digs shy of reaching the 750-career mark ... Freshman Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) racked up 35 kills at the IPFW Invitational and dished out six service aces against IPFW, the high-water mark by a Marquette player this season.
