ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sophomore forward Katie Alsdurf (Forest Lake, Minn.) scored 13 points in the second half, all key points, as Marquette (10-7, 2-3 C-USA) came from behind to beat Saint Louis, 68-65.
Alsdurf hit a three pointer with 11:34 left to tie the game at 37, then hit a three to tie the game again with 2:47 left. A layup wilt 12 seconds left by Alsdurf tied the game at 55 and sent it to overtime.
She hit two free throws and a three pointer in the extra period before fouling out to finish with 13. Marquette was on fire in the extra session, scoring 15 points.
"This was a huge effort for Katie Alsdurf," said Marquette head coach Terri Mitchell. "She was coming off a slightly sprained ankle and we weren't sure how much she'd play. We put her in and out to keep her fresh and her experience was able to take over."
Four players scored double figures for Marquette, led by guard Carolyn Kieger with 14 points. Guard Kelly Schewerman added 13 and guard Katie O'Grady added 10 points off the bench.
Harmonie King led Saint Louis (11-9, 2-3 C-USA) with 17 points. Jana Haywood scored 12 points for the Billikens, who led by as many as six with 9:19 left to play. The Billikens forced Marquette into a season high 26 turnovers, but MU was able to hold on to the ball late, only turning the ball over four times in the final nine minutes.
"We talked about honor and playing a complete game," Mitchell added. "We had every reason to fold today, but we didn't."
Marquette kept improving its shooting as the game continued. The Golden Eagles shot 24 percent in the first half and increased to 44 percent in the second half. MU was on fire in the overtime, hitting 4-of-5 from the field and 6-of-6 from the line.
The Golden Eagles continue play on Friday, Jan. 31 against TCU at the U.S. Cellular Arena at 7 p.m.
