Marquette Volleyball Entertains Memphis and Saint Louis

MATCH INFO -- The Marquette volleyball team returns home this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 24-25) to play host to Memphis and Saint Louis, respectively. Both matches will be played at the MU Gym with the Memphis affair starting at 7:00 p.m., and Saint Louis bout on Saturday slated for a 5:00 p.m. start. Saturday's match will be Alumni Night with many former Marquette players being recognized during the evening.
THE COACHES -- Marquette is directed by second-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, '92). Heading into the weekend, Rolf has a 16-year career won-lost slate of 328-199 including an 18-30 effort at Marquette. Before arriving at Marquette, Rolf enjoyed a successful 14-year career at Minnesota Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
Memphis Head Coach Carrie Yerty (Washington State '92) is in her eighth season at the helm of the Tigers' program and has compiled a school and career record of 132-124.
Marilyn Nolen (Southwest Texas State, '66) is in her 10th year as the head coach at Saint Louis and heads into a Friday contest against DePaul with a school mark of 188-133. In 32 campaigns as a head coach, Nolen owned a career ledger of 807-351-12 at the start of the weekend.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette stands 5-14 overall, 2-4 in Conference USA action, following a pair of setbacks on the road last weekend against league foes Tulane and Southern Miss.
Memphis enters its match against Marquette with wins in its last five matches that has raised its overall record to 22-2, including 4-1 in C-USA. In the Tigers' most recent outing, they defeated non-conference foe Mississippi in three games earlier this week.
Saint Louis starts the weekend with an overall effort of 7-15, 0-5 in league affairs. The Billikens look to snap a five-match losing streak this Friday at DePaul.
NOTES -- Marquette's 27.8 hitting percentage in last Saturday's match at Southern Miss was the team's third-highest mark of the year ... Freshman Nicole Wallace (Wheaton, Ill.) totaled seven attacks and hit a team-high 40.0 percent (7-1--15) against Southern Miss ... Sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) leads the team with a 4.19 kills per-game average, good for a fifth-place tie among C-USA players ... Coughlin heads into the weekend with 11 straight outings of double-figure attacks and is just 19 kills shy of reaching 700 in her career ... Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) tied her career high in kills with 21 in the Tulane contest ... Freer's 13 digs in the Southern Miss enabled her to move into 10th place on the school's all-time list in that category ... She is 15 digs from moving past Mary Donohue's (1984-86) ninth-place mark of 842 ... Freshman Jamie Mueller (Richfield, Wis.) is eighth in the conference in digs (3.42 dpg) ... Senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) owns a six-match streak of double-figure attacks ... Senior setter Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) cracked the 3,900 career-assists barrier last weekend and heads into Friday's action with 3,903 to her credit.
