Marquette Volleyball Edged In Four Games By Cincinnati

MILWAUKEE -- The University of Cincinnati volleyball team recorded a four-game victory over a game Marquette squad Friday evening in a match played at the Fifth Third Arena on the Cincinnati campus. The Bearcats posted a 30-25, 30-23, 25-30, 36-34 decision over Marquette, raising its record to 14-2 overall (1-0 C-USA). The setback dropped the Golden Eagles' mark to 3-11, 0-1 in C-USA action.
Cincinnati finished the contest with a 25.5 hitting percent (75-27--188) compared to MU's effort of 20.5 percent (71-31--195). UC enjoyed a 77-72 edge in digs while Marquette posted a 12-11 advantage in blocks.
Sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) paced Marquette's offense with a team-high 22 kills, her second straight and fourth match of the campaign with 20 or more attacks. Coughlin concluded the evening with a team-best 37.0 attack percentage (22-5--46). Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) came through with 19 kills, her sixth consecutive outing of double-digit attacks, and 13 digs, representing her fifth straight double double (kills/digs). Senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) rounded out the double-figure attackers with 14 and hit a solid 35.5 percent for the evening (14-3--31). Senior setter Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) dished out 59 assists while freshman Jamie Mueller (Richfield, Wis.) chalked a up a team-leading 19 digs.
Marquette's next action takes place on Saturday (Oct. 4) when it plays at No. 18-ranked Louisville starting at 6:30 pm (CST).
NOTES -- Theresa Coughlin is one attack shy of reaching 600 in her career ... Gemma Greer is nine assists from moving past Jennifer Martin (1988-91) into second place on the school's all-time career list ... Greer has 3,643 assists during her MU career while Martin finished with 3,651 ...
