Marquette Volleyball Hosts Charlotte and East Carolina

MATCH INFO - The Marquette volleyball team will make its Conference USA home season debut this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 10-11) when it takes on Charlotte and East Carolina. The Golden Eagles battle the 49ers of Charlotte on Friday before entertaining the Pirates of ECU on Saturday (Oct. 11). Both matches will be played at the Old Gym on the Marquette campus and begin at 7:00 p.m. This weekend's contests represent MU's first home action since the weekend of Sept. 12-13.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by second-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, '92). Heading into the weekend, Rolf has a 16-year career won-lost slate of 326-197 including a 16-28 effort at Marquette. Before arriving at Marquette, Rolf enjoyed a successful 14-year career at Minnesota Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
Charlotte Head Coach Lisa Marston (North Carolina, '92) is in her fourth season at the helm of the 49ers' program and has compiled a school record of 53-62. In nine campaigns as a head coach, Marston has a career ledger of 138-141.
Colleen Munson (Texas-Arlington, '93) is in her fourth year as the head coach at East Carolina and heads into a Friday contest against DePaul with a school and career mark of 39-71.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette stands 3-12 after dropping tough four-game decisions at Cincinnati and No. 18-ranked Louisville last weekend.
Charlotte comes to town with an overall slate of 6-14 (0-2 in C-USA). Last weekend the 49ers opened league action with four-game losses to South Florida and UAB.
East Carolina takes an overall record of 8-11 into its DePaul match, 0-2 in conference outings. The Pirates hosted UAB and South Florida last weekend and came out on the short end of five-game verdicts in each match.
GREER MOVES INTO SECOND PLACE ON MU's CAREER ASSISTS LIST -- Senior Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) moved into second place on Marquette's all-time assists ladder last weekend. Greer doled out a total of 116 assists in matches against Cincinnati and Louisville, increasing her total to 3,700. She moved past Jennifer Martin's (1988-91) total of 3,651. Holding down the top spot on that list is Liz Egasti (1997-2000) with 5,180.
NOTES - Sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) was the team's top hitting threat last weekend, registering 46 kills and hitting 31.1 percent against the Bearcats and Cardinals (45-12--106) ... Coughlin has three straight and five matches this year of 20 or more attacks ... Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) posted double doubles (kills/digs) against UC and Louisville and has six consecutive outings of double digits in both kills and digs ... Senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) notched double figures in kills in both matches last week and has 10 matches to her credit this year with double figures in kills ... Lopata is 21 kills shy or reaching 600 in her career ... Sophomore Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) recorded a career-high six blocks in the Cincinnati match ... Freshman Jamie Mueller (Richfield, Wis.) has six matches of double-figure digs.
STATS - Through matches played Oct. 7, Marquette holds down the No. 2 spot among C-USA squads in digs with a 17.71 per-game average ... Theresa Coughlin ranks No. 5 among league players in kills per game (4.19 kpg) and is 8th in points (4.57 ppg) ... Erin Freer ranks fourth among C-USA performers in digs (3.64 dpg) while Jamie Mueller (3.50 dpg) is sixth.
