"The signings of Mike and Ryan help fill some needs that we will have with our upcoming graduation loses," said Crean. "Both players love to play, are excellent students and great fits for Marquette University."
Kinsella, a 7-foot, 252-pound center, will play this season at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, where he transferred into after one season at Rice University at which he redshirted after suffering a stress fracture in his right foot. Prior to attending Rice, he averaged 21.2 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.1 blocks during an outstanding senior season for Rochester John Marshall High School. Kinsella, who chose Marquette over Iowa State and UNLV, will have three years of eligibility with the Golden Eagles.
"Mike is someone that we recruited when he was in high school, and having a chance to get back involved with him this past summer we felt he would be an excellent fit for Marquette," said Crean. "Mike really wants to be successful, and coming from Jay Pivec's program we feel he will have a chance to contribute for us next year."
Amoroso, a 6-foot-8-inch, 230-pound power forward, is entering his senior season at Burnsville High School after an outstanding junior campaign in which he averaged 23.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, shot 42 percent from beyond the three-point line and earned all league honors. Amoroso chose Marquette over the University of Minnesota.
"Ryan is a player who is only scratching the surface of his potential, and as he gains strength there is no question that his ability to shoot from the perimeter and score around the rim will help us," said Crean.
"We are looking to help Ryan become more of a complete player and be someone who can become a very good rebounder, passer and screen-on-the-ball player."
