Reflections on the Beginning of the Season

Hello to our MU friends and family! I have been given the opportunity to write diary entries throughout our 2003-04 season to give all of you a behind-the-scenes look at our team. I can honestly say this season has been a long time coming. As soon as last season ended, the returners and incoming freshman have worked incredibly hard to get prepared. Pre-season was very good for all of us, and when we tipped off against Wisconsin AAU for our first exhibition game, we were ready!
We have been blessed to start our season 4-0, 2-0 excluding exhibition games. Drake is a very talented team, and we were both desperate to start the season off with a win. As Terri told us, "Only half the teams in the country will start their season 1-0." And as we can all figure out, (don't bother doing the math in your heads, I already tried). only half of the teams will win their second game, and even fewer will win both, and some will win neither. Okay, now I'm confused. But you see my point.
Basically, it has been great to win both! Our game against Evansville was huge. Kelly Schwerman told us that an MU team hasn't gone 2-0 since around 1992. We were more than happy to break that curse!
We will be leaving for Maine tomorrow, Thanksgiving day, and we have a tough tournament ahead of us. We will tip off on Saturday against Oakland, and then the championship is Sunday! Much of the team will be headed to the Schwerman's for a Thanksgiving meal (thanks Mr. and Mrs. Schwerman!). We will be so full of turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes that the coaches may have to roll us onto the plane!
I hope you will all enjoy these diary entries throughout the season. Who knows? You may learn some downright hilarious facts about your favorite MU players or coaches. Even still, you will always be able to sit "shotgun" through a very exciting season that is ahead of us!
