MILWAUKEE - Marquette volleyball?s leading attacker, sophomore Theresa Coughlin, garnered honorable mention recognition in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's All-Midwest balloting. Her selection, announced today, is the second in the history of Marquette Volleyball, and the first in the tenure of Head Coach Pati Rolf. The All-Region selection follows Coughlin?s selection to the Conference USA Second Team.
The banner year for Coughlin saw her lead the team in both kills (488) and points (531.0), as she helped Marquette to a 14-16 record. Her 488 kills are the second-best single season total ever accrued by a Golden Eagle. In just two years, she has already cracked the Marquette top ten list with 867 kills.
Coughlin?s power was matched by her consistency, as she posted a .258 hitting percentage on the season, bringing her career efficiency to a .246 average, which makes her the fourth most efficient attacker in school history.
"She?s become a very stable force, and much more consistent than she was in her freshman year," Rolf said. "Next year we?re going to have a new face on our squad, with a new setter, and Theresa will be an important part of this new team that will generate a lot of offense for us."
Coughlin?s contributions were not limited to the offensive side of the net. She was one of six Golden Eagles to total more than 200 digs (207) in 2003, and was also third on the squad in total blocks, with 44.
