?We are very pleased to announce the signing of Ousmane Barro. Ousmane?s size and athleticism is very exciting to all of us, but his commitment, personality and work ethic are what we feel will separate him and help him eventually become an excellent player at Marquette,? said Crean. ?Even though he is still relatively new to this country and is continuing to grow in every area of his life, Ousmane understands the value of hard work and has made a commitment to getting better.?
Barro, a 6-foot-10 inch, 230 pound forward, is currently in his senior year at Chicago Julian High School and due to Illinois High School Association athletic policy is not permitted to compete athletically because of his foreign-exchange-student status.
?Coach Loren Jackson has done an incredible job of bringing Ousmane along since his arrival a few years ago in the United States. What he lacks in game experience, he makes up for in his willingness and desire to learn and improve,? said Crean. ?Some of the skills that standout for him basketball-wise are his incredible ability to run the floor from end-to-end, his 6-10 height and 7-2 wingspan, a desire and willingness to rebound and score inside, as well as continued improvement facing the basket.?
?I hope all of us can remain patient with Ousmane because in a period of time he will be an outstanding player,? said Crean.
