Dwyane Wade Named USBWA First Team All-American

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University junior guard Dwyane Wade (Robbins, Ill.), the 2002-03 Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, added another accolade to his growing list by being named a First Team All-American by the United States Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday.
Wade leads Conference USA in scoring (21.9 ppg), the fourth-highest single-season average in Marquette history. He stands second and ninth among C-USA players in assists (4.15 apg), is second on the club and seventh in the league in field goal percentage (.511) and tops the team and is No. 2 in the league in steals with an average of 2.26 steals per game. Wade has scored in double figures in 25 of 27 contests and has 18 performances of 20 or more points.
In addition, to being named First Team all-Conference USA this season, Wade has been named a finalist for the Naismith Award, the Oscar Robertson Award and the Wooden Award. Five times this season he was honored as the C-USA Player of the Week and he has gained National Player of the Week honors from The Sporting News (Dec. 16) and FoxSports.com (Mar. 3).
Marquette, the No. 1 seed in the 2003 Kelly Tires Conference USA Tournament faces UAB in a quarterfinal game on Thursday (Mar. 13) starting at 6:00 pm. The game will be televised locally by WDJT-TV (Ch. 58).
