GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Marquette men's golf team, coming off a team victory in the Kauai Collegiate Cup last weekend, sits in 10th place following the first two rounds of the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate. The Golden Eagles shot a 32-over, 608 to tie with Charlotte following the first 36 holes.
Coastal Carolina leads the field with a two-round score of 584. They are followed by UNC Wilmington with a score of 588. The Seahawks led after round two, but shot 302 in the second round to fall into second place. Elon is tied with ECU for third place. The Phoenix shot 297 in the first round and 295 in the second.
East Carolina's Jonathan Hill leads the field of 94 golfers. He shot a 71 in the morning round and a 70 in round two for a combined score of 141. Coastal Carolina's Rafael Vera led the field after the first round with the lowest score of the day (68), but shot a 75 in round two to slip into a tie for second place.
Marquette freshman Joe Weber, who has been playing the best of all Marquette players over the past seven days, leads the Goledn Eagles in scoring. After a morning round of 75, he shot a 73 to finish the day at four-over, 148. He is in a tie for 18th place.
Marquette's top two scorers are in the next two spots for the Eagles. Sophomore Nathan Colson is in 30th place after firing a 150. Senior Matt Hilton is in 53rd place after firing an 11-over, 155.
Freshman Kyle Murphy is in 81st place with a 160. Freshman Steve Sass rounds out the Marquette lineup with a 19-over, 163 to sit in 88th place.
The third and final round of this weekend's tournament will be held tomorrow, March 29 with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m.
