Golden Eagles Win First Round Of C-USA Tournament

Milwaukee-The Marquette women's tennis team advances to the winners bracket of the Conference USA Championship Tournament after downing DePaul this afternoon, 4-2. The 10th-seeded Golden Eagles will face second-seeded TCU at noon tomorrow at the Goldring Tennis Center on the campus of Tulane University in New Orleans, La.
Marquette started out by sweeping the doubles point. The No. 2 duo of Veronica Garcia Briseno/Genevieve Charron took the match, 8-4, from Natalie Matko/Brenda Leung. In No. 3 doubles, Annabelle Espinosa/Eva Trujillo Herrera defeated Rachel Dybas/Megan Stwart, 8-4. Michelle Mojiz/Anna Pavlovic did not finish the No. 1 doubles match against Szilvia Kelemen/Marina Pareshkevova.
Mojzis was defeated in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 1 singles match, by Kelemen.
Trujillo Herrera took the No. 2 singles match from Pareshkevova, 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Garcia Briseno came away victorious in the No. 4 singles match. She beat Matko, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
In No. 5 singles, Pavlovic fell, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Karen Falduto.
Charron defeated Dybas, 6-4, 6-0, in the No. 6 singles match.
Espinosa did not finish her No. 3 singles match verses Leung.
