CHICAGO - Marquette freshman Joe Weber is Conference USA's March Golfer of the Month, the league office announced.
After seeing limited tournament action in the fall, Weber has emerged in the spring as one of the Golden Eagles top performers. At Marquette's opening tournament of the month, the Kauai Collegiate Cup, he shot a fifth-place 218 to help the Golden Eagles to their first team crown since the 2000 campaign. At the Bradford Creek Intercollegiate, Weber's 15th place finish helped Marquette to a 10th-place showing.
"He's been really stepping it up. We knew he had a lot of talent," said MU head coach Tim Grogan. "He was just getting experience in the fall and he was kind of spotty. Over the winter, he put in some good work and made a change in equipment. Those things have made a difference. His confidence level has been growing as he has been getting better."
Weber has improved his scoring average to 76.83 and has played in all three events in the spring. He saw action just twice in the fall.
The Golden Eagles return to action April 14-15 at the Billiken Invitational in Madison, Ill.
