Marquette Finishes Eighth at C-USA Golf Champinoship

DADE CITY, Fla. -- Marquette moved up two spots in the final round of the Conference USA Golf Championship to finish in a tie for eighth. The Golden Eagles shot a 296, their best round in the tournament, to move into a tie with East Carolina at 40-over, 892.
TCU, the fifth-ranked team in the nation, won the event for the second straight year, eclipsing UAB by seven strokes. The Blazers moved from third to capture second place. South Florida improved from seventh to take third. Houston, the second place finisher after 36 holes, placed fourth.
Charlotte golfer Russell Killough won the individual portion of the tournament. He was one of two golfers to better par. He won the event by three strokes over Adam Meyer of TCU. Killough shot a 54-hole 209 (-4). Meyer was at 212 (-1).
Marquette senior Matt Hilton (Muskego, Wis.) was MU's top finisher in 21st. He shot a final round 73 to finish at eight-over, 221. Hilton moved up from 25th with his final round tally.
A pair of MU golfers tied for 36th. Sophomore Nathan Colson (Plymouth, Wis.) and freshman Joe Weber (Bryant, Wis.) shot a 54-hole total of 225, 12-over.
MU's two other golfers tied for 45th place. Freshmen Kyle Murphy (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Steve Sass (Mequon, Wis.) shot 16-over, 229.
The Conference USA Championship concludes one of the most productive season's in Marquette history. The Golden Eagles won one regular season event, the Kauai Collegiate Cup, and finished in the top 10 in seven of nine events. MU also had an individual champion when Colson won the Ironhorse Intercollegiate.
