Women's Tennis Falls in Regular Season Finale

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team (3-16) concluded its 2003 regular season with a narrow loss, dropping a 4-3 decision to UAB (10-6) at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium in Milwaukee.
In typical fashion, Marquette claimed the doubles point taking matches at the no. 2 and no. 3 spots. Veronica Garcia Briseno and Eva Trujillo Herrera won the no. 2 match, 8-0, over Ornischa Maier-Knapp and Yvonne Ernst. Alexandra Stankovic and Kristin Minkowski won the no. 3 spot 8-6 over Julia Hoch and Nadia Dellarciprete.
Marquette won two matches in singles play, but couldn't claim the clinching third. Trujillo-Herrera had little trouble winning at no. 1 beating Natascha Immele, 6-1, 6-0. Stankovic won the other match for MU at the no. 5 position. She beat Hoch 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 once the match was settled.
MU had its best chance to win the match at the no. 3 spot. Anna Pavlovic forced three sets to Ernst, but fell 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. MU's most frequent winner this season, Garcia Briseno, lost at the no. 2 match in a tough battle, 6-4, 7-5, to Femke de Boer. She falls to 21-12 on the year.
Marquette next will play in the Conference USA Tournament in New Orleans, La.
