MILWAUKEE -- As they did during the season, seniors Kate Gordon (Sioux City, Iowa) and Anne Dalecky (Wauwatosa, Wis.) were named MVPs of the women's soccer team to the school's annual awards banquet on Sunday, April 28.
Gordon and Dalecky provided the MU women's soccer team with an offensive and defensive presence that gave most teams fits. The duo led Marquette to its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth-straight C-USA Tournament championship match.
Gordon's offensive threat helped her to win a bevy of post-season awards. She was named first-team All-Conference USA for the third straight season. She also was named first-team All-Region by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Soccer Buzz Magazine. She was also a second-team All-America selection by the NSCAA and third team All-America by Soccer Buzz.
Gordon led the team in 2002 with 13 goals and 32 points. She finished her career with 48 goals and 114 points, both the second highest totals in school history. Thanks to her strong career, Gordon was drafted by the Carolina Courage of the Women's United Soccer Association, where she recently made her professional debut.
Dalecky received her share of post-season honors as well. She was a first-team All-Conference USA selection and was named second-team all-region by both the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz Magazines.
For their careers, Dalecky and Gordon led Marquette to an average of 16.25 wins per season, four NCAA Tournament berths and two Conference USA Championships.
