Golden Eagles Win First Exhibition Game on Italian Tour

SAN BONIFACIO, Italy -- After struggling in the first quarter of the first of four games on a exhibition tour of Italy, Marquette got its offense in gear and broke the 100-point mark in a 101-75 win over Newpolibasket, an A2 team in San Bonifacio, Italy.
The Golden Eagles found themselves trailing by double digits early, but rallied to cut the first quarter deficit to 28-22. MU's defense held form in the second quarter, holding the home team to 12 points. At the break, Marquette led by 13.
The Golden Eagles scored 27 points in each of the final two quarters for its final tally. Marquette was hot for most of the contest, hitting 55.9 percent of its shots.
Five MU players broke double figures. Carolyn Kieger and Katie Alsdurf led MU with 12 points each. Kieger added seven assists to her total. Katie O'Grady and Crystal Weaver scored 11 each. Efueko Osagie poured in 10. Glica Piccino led all scorers with 19 points for Newpolibasket. Anderia Pozzan added 14 off the bench and Francesca Biral scored 11.
The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow against Italsoft Reyer in Mestre, Italy.
