MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University Head Volleyball Coach Pati Rolf has announced that Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) will serve as captain of the 2003 Golden Eagle volleyball team.
Greer, who will be entering her senior campaign this fall, has been a three-year starter at setter and ranks prominently in several seasonal and career categories. In 2002, Greer recorded a team-high 1,147 assists, fifth on the school's seasonal chart. She turned in eight matches of 50 or more assists including a season-high 71 against Central Michigan. Career-wise she holds down the No. 3 spot on MU's all-time chart in assists with 3,090.
"Gemma provided a great deal of support and stability during the coaching transition last year which meant a lot to the team," Rolf said. "This past spring her leadership blossomed and she did an excellent job with the younger players. I know that she will excel in the role."
The Marquette volleyball team will open its season the weekend of August 29-30 with an appearance in the Duke Invitational.
