MILWAUKEE - The Marquette community was saddened on July 2 by the passing of Nicole Ellis, 24. Nicole passed away at the University of Chicago Hospitals after suffering from an infection and an enlarged liver.
She was no stranger to Marquette University. Her father, Bo, was a member of the Marquette men's basketball team from 1974-77. He was also an assistant coach for 10 seasons at Marquette.
Nicole was an MU alum. She was a December 2000 graduate of the university, earning a degree in criminal justice. She spent two seasons serving as manager for the Marquette women's basketball team. She was planning to attend Marquette University Law School upon completion of her master's degree in criminal justice at Chicago State.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ellis family during this trying time," said Terri Mitchell, Marquette women's basketball head coach.
She was laid to rest on July 9 in Chicago.
