MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team opens up its 2003 campaign with an exhibition match against Illinois. That contest is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. at Valley Fields. Admission is free.
Marquette is coming off of yet another successful season under the direction of head coach Markus Roeders. In his eighth season, Roeders has won more matches than any other MU women's soccer coach. He has guided the Golden Eagles to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, the longest current NCAA Tournament streak of any Marquette team.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 13-8-3 season in which the team advanced to the Conference USA tournament championship match and were selected to host the early rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year.
Illinois will provide Marquette with a quality opponent before the regular season starts. The Illini played an exhibition match on Aug. 17, tying Indiana State, 1-1. Last year, Illinois was 9-11 on the year.
Marquette opens up its regular season on Friday, Aug. 29 against Vanderbilt at 8:15 p.m at Valley Fields.
