Marquette Volleyball Hosts City Centre City Challenge

TOURNEY INFO - After playing its opening two weeks on the road, the 2003 Marquette volleyball makes its home debut this Friday and Saturday (Sept. 12-13) when it hosts the Holiday Inn City Centre Challenge at the MU Gym. Joining the Golden Eagles in the tournament are Ohio, Bradley and No. 23-ranked Missouri. Marquette battles Bradley on Friday at 7:00 p.m., before tangling with Ohio (Noon) and Missouri (7:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by second-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, '92). Heading into the weekend, Rolf has a 16-year career won-lost slate of 324-190 including a 14-21 effort at Marquette. Before arriving at Marquette, Rolf enjoyed a successful 14-year career at Minnesota Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
Bradley Head Coach Scott Luster is in his sixth season at the helm of the Braves' program and has manufactured a career record of 89-62 In 23 seasons as a head coach, Luster has a 537-313 career mark.
Geoff Carlston (Minnesota, '93) is in his first year in charge of the Ohio program. Prior to his current post he spent three campaigns as the head coach at Concordia University (St. Paul, Minn.) where he compiled a 49-42 won-lost slate. In four years of head coaching, Carlston has career effort of 52-45.
Susan Kreklow (Southwest Missouri State, '84) is in her fourth year with the Missouri program and owns a school record of 75-27. In 14 years as a head coach, Kreklow shows a career ledger of 584-147.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette enters the Holiday Inn City Centre Challenge with an overall record of 1-5. The Golden Eagles came out on the short end of all three of their matches last weekend at the NIKE Invitational hosted by Minnesota. MU dropped an intense five-game decision to Dayton in its opening match before losing three-game verdicts to Kansas and Minnesota.
Ohio stands 3-3 after capturing two of three matches last weekend at the IPFW Invitational, defeating host IPFW and Middle Tennessee State and losing to Washington.
Bradley owns a 2-5 record after dropping a three-game decision to Illinois-Chicago on Tuesday.
Missouri, ranked No. 23 in the nation, stands 5-1 after posting triumphs in two of three matches at the Utah Classic last weekend.
COUGHLIN EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS -- For the second straight weekend, sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) earned all-tournament honors following her performance at the NIKE Invitational. Coughlin recorded 40 attacks, 19 digs and eight blocks in the three matches. She totaled 26 kills, her second-highest total of the year, and 12 digs in the five-game contest against Dayton. Heading into the weekend, Coughlin leads the Golden Eagles with a 4.14 kills per-game average.
NOTES - Junior Erica Heisser (Grand Rapids, Mich.) turned in a solid effort at the NIKE Invitational, racking up 28 attacks and five blocks ... Heisser has recorded double figures in attacks in three matches this year ... Senior setter Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) has upped her career total in assists to 3,307, good for third place on the school's all-time chart ... Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) paces the team with a 4.00 digs per-game effort and is 45 shy of reaching 700 during her career.
