MATCH INFO - The Marquette University volleyball team will meet crosstown rival UW-Milwaukee Wednesday evening (Sept. 24) in the squad's lone match of the week. The Klotsche Center on the UWM campus will serve as the site of the 65th meeting between the two schools and the match will start at 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by second-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, '92). Heading into Wednesday's action, Rolf has a 16-year career won-lost slate of 326-194 including a 16-25 effort at Marquette. Before arriving at Marquette, Rolf enjoyed a successful 14-year career at Minnesota Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
UW-Milwaukee Head Coach Kathy Litzau (Notre Dame, '90) is in her 12th season at the helm of the Panthers' program and has compiled a school and career record of 193-127.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette stands 3-9 after playing in the Wingate INNvitational last weekend hosted by Montana State University. The Golden Eagles dropped four-game decisions to Gonzaga and Wyoming before closing out with an impressive four-game triumph over Montana State.
UW-Milwaukee stands 10-3 after playing in the Diet Coke Classic this past weekend in Minneapolis. The Panthers topped Charlotte in their opening match before coming out on the short end of contests against Colorado State and host Minnesota.
GREER EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS -- Senior setter Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) earned all-tournament honors at Wingate INNvitational after registering 151 assisst, 13 kills and 20 digs. In MU's four-game triumph over Montana State, Greer dished out 53 assists, her fourth match of 50 or more assists this season. Career-wise, she has 3,584 assists to her credit, good for the No. 3 spot on the school's all-time list. She is 68 from moving past Jennifer Martin (1988-91) into second place.
NOTES - Marquette's 96 digs in the Montana State affair was the second-highest total this season by the Golden Eagles and the most in a four-game match ... Sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) totaled 48 attacks last weekend and heads into Wednesday's bout against UW-Milwaukee with a four-match streak of double-figure attacks ... Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) recorded a career-high 21 kills in the Gonzaga match ... Freer also posted 48 kills in the Wingate INNvitational and chalked up three straight double doubles (kills/digs) ... Freshman Jamie Mueller's (Richfield, Wis.) 27 digs in the Montana State match marked the second-highest effort by a Marquette player this year ... Mueller has four straight matches of double digits in digs and seven during the year ... Sophomore Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) established season highs in both attacks (13) and hitting percentage (32.3%) in the Montana State match ... Senior Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) accounted for 14 attacks in the Montana State match, her third consecutive and eighth outing of the year with 10 or more kills.
STATS - Through matches played Sept. 21, Marquette holds down the No. 2 spot among C-USA squads in digs with a 17.40 per-game average ... Erin Freer ranks fourth among C-USA performers in digs (3.73 dpg) while Jamie Mueller (3.34 dpg) is seventh ... Theresa Coughlin ranks 10th in the conference in kills (3.89 kpg) and points (4.33 ppg) per game ... Gemma Greer's 10.98 assists per game mark places her seventh in the league listings.
