Marquette Volleyball Falls To No. 13 Minnesota

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette volleyball team closed out competition in the NIKE Invitational Saturday evening with a three-game loss to No. 13-ranked Minnesota. The host Golden Gophers raised their record to 2-4 following a 30-26, 30-24, 30-26 decision over MU which slipped to 1-5.
Minnesota recorded a 28.3 hitting percentage (55-21-120) compared to the Golden Eagles' effort of 11.7 percent (32-20-103). UM held a 46-38 advantage in digs as well as a slim 10-.5 -9.0 margin in total blocks.
Junior Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) and sophomore Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) each finished the match with eight attacks. Senior setter Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) doled out 24 assists and paced the team with 10 digs.
Marquette's next action takes place next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 12-13) when it hosts the Marquette/Holiday Inn City Center Challenge.
