Get Game - Give Life
1/23/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
At halftime of Saturday?s game with DePaul, Marquette will present a program entitled Get Game - Give Life. ?Started last year as a personal mission to create awareness locally by Marquette Special Assistant Trey Schwab, who suffers from UIP-IPF (Usual Interstitial Pneumonitis - Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis), the program has grown into a national platform under the direction of U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson.
Saturday?s featured speaker will be Dr. Tina Sauerhammer - a former Miss Wisconsin (2003) - and the national advisor for Thompson?s organ donation curriculum and spokesperson for the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Organ Procurement Organization. ?Dr. Sauerhammer?s father passed away last year while waiting for a kidney transplant.
Schwab has been working towards a lung transplant with Drs. Robert Love and Keith Meyer at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics since January 2002. ?He is just one of 80,000 people in America who are currently on waiting lists to receive organs.
To learn more about organ donation and how you can help visit the information booth at Saturday?s game or go on-line at www.uwhcopo.org or www.wisdonornetwork.org.
