Vernon Named C-USA Setter-of-the-Week

MILWAUKEE -- Senior setter Sarah Vernon was named Conference USA Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week, the league office has announced. This is Vernon's second player-of-the-week award. She was also named setter-of-the-week on September 13.

For the week, Vernon had 44 assists on 52 Marquette kills against Wis.-Green Bay and had 40 assists on 62 Marquette kills in a win over DePaul. Shad had 16 combined kills against the two teams. Against DePaul, she was two digs shy of a double-double, having 11 kills with the 40 assists. She hit over 30 percent in both matches, hitting 36.4 percent against UWGB and a team-best 52.9 against DePaul. She had a team best 46.4 percent hitting percentage in the two wins and scored 20 points during the pair of 3-0 wins.

"Sarah has shown tremendous growth," head coach Pati Rolf said. "She continues to improve each week. She's really taken to the challenge of being an offensive threat and other teams have to take that threat seriously. She's been such a stable force for us, and that will help us as we play bigger and stronger teams."

The Golden Eagles, 11-5 on the season, return to action on Friday, Oct. 15 against USF at 7 p.m. EDT.
