Marquette scored all three of its goals before the 11 minute mark. All five goals came in the first 24 minutes of the match.
Senior Clarie Weber started the scoring in the third minute. Her shot came from five yards yard, beating TCU goalkeeper Lindsay White. Meghan Connelly and Heather Goranson recorded assists on the play.
Just 80 seconds later, Goranson scored on a cross from Julie Thompson. Connelly started the play that was finished by a five-yard shot from Goranson.
In the 11th minute, junior defender Sarah Uyenishi capped the Marquette scoring. Goranson, who had points on each of the three Marquette goals, fed a corner kick into the penalty area. Ashley George directed the ball that went off TCU keeper Lindsay White. Uyenishi jumped on the free ball to finish the Marquette scoring.
?Each goal was double assisted, which means the whole team was clocking. All three goals were very similar,? Associate Head Coach Frank Pelaez said. ?We worked on that in practice this week. For it to happen was a great reward.
TCU cut the score to 3-1 in the 18th minute when Laura Greenberg scored off an assist from Jessi Moore. TCU?s Bjarnv Birgisdottir scored in the 23rd minute to cut Marquette?s lead to 3-2. However, TCU would get no closer.
The Golden Eagles outshot TCU 10-4 in the first half and 6-4 in the second half to thwart any TCU comeback hopes.
?Our goals set the tone to carry us through the half,? Pelaez added. ?In the second half, we settled down to play better soccer.?
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, Oct. 17 at noon against Houston at Valley Fields.
