MILWAUKEE - The Marquette (8-6-1, 4-2-1) women's soccer team earned its second straight win today with a 3-0 victory against Houston (4-12-0, 1-6-0).
"This as an important game for us because we have not been able to come out on Sunday and play well after a big win on Friday," said head coach Markus Roeders. "We were able to do that today."
Meghan Connelly scored first for Marquette when she received a perfect pass from Heather Goranson and beat Houston goalkeeper Nicole Oliver who came out of the box to defend on the play. Connelly scored at 17:41.
"Meghan is becoming the consistent scorer we need," said Roeders. "She had a great finish on that first goal."
Marquette didn't let up as Lindsay Michuda cleared the ball to Alison Loughrin who carried the ball for twenty yards before scoring on a fifteen yard shot.
"Lindsay played really well," added Roeders. "She did a lot to dictate the tempo and spread our point of attack."
Kristie Matola sealed the win in the second half with a goal at 58:34. Lindsay Michuda cleared the ball to Meghan Connelly who took the ball into the box and crossed the ball to Matola who found the back of the net.
Marquette goalkeeper Katie Bissen recorded her fourth shutout of the season and had four saves in the win.
"I think all around we were really solid," said Roeders. "We didn't give them many chances, but some of that goes back to our offense. We didn't have too many turnovers today."
Marquette will travel to Memphis on Friday to face the Tigers at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles then return to Valley Fields to take on Tulane on Oct. 24.
