MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette (10-7-1) women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision tonight to Wisconsin (14-4-1) at Valley Fields.
The two teams played even soccer in the first half as neither team was able to take advantage of any opportunities.
"They had a few more shots on goal tonight, but I don't think it made that big of a difference," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Katie Bissen had less to do than their goalkeeper when it came to the standpoint of keeping the ball outside the 18 yard line."
Bissen finished the game with two saves while Wisconsin goalkeeper Lynn Murray had zero.
The Wisconsin goal came in the 54th minute when Amy Vermeulen found Allison Preiss at midfield. Preiss carried the ball and fired a shot from 16 yards for the goal.
"When they scored the goal it was at an inopportune time," said Roeders. "As the game progresses, you get a little more fatigued and, at the same time, you need to work harder to create."
Marquette had a great opportunity to score when Lindsay Michuda collected a ball at midfield and found Julie Thompson on the wing. Thompson carried the ball and crossed it in front of goal to Ester Bedard who nearly headed the ball for a goal in the 62nd minute.
It was the final regular season home game for Marquette in the 2004 season and a pre- game ceremony honored Marquette's six seniors, Bedard, Bissen, Katie Michuda, Jessica Ratcliffe, Claire Weber and Jessica Zetlau.
Marquette will travel to Saint Louis to play the Billikens in the C-USA finale on Saturday at 7 p.m. Marquette will return to Saint Louis on Nov. 3 for the C-USA Tournament.
