MILWAUKEE ? Marquette women's basketball will hold two events in the coming days. The program will host its 5th Annual Women's Basketball Coaching Clinic on Saturday, Oct. 29. The team will play its third scrimmage on Monday, Nov. 1.
Area basketball coaches will gather at the Al McGuire Center for a practice and informational session from the Marquette coaching staff. Also on hand to offer instruction and tips will be Mike Thibault, head coach of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. Thibault is familiar to Milwaukee and the Marquette staff as he spent four seasons as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks. Thibault led the Sun to an Eastern Conference Championship this season and has two playoff appearances in his two seasons as head coach.
On Monday, Nov. 1, the team will play in its third open scrimmage of the season. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center and is free and open to the public. The offense put on a show in its last scrimmage as the Blue team scored 71 points in a scrimmage that was eight minutes shorter than a normal contest. Junior Carolyn Kieger scored a game-high 26 points and had seven assists in the scrimmage.
Marquette returns three starters from a team that tied the school record for wins in 2003-04 with 22 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.
The Golden Eagles open the season on Saturday, Nov. 20 against Wis.-Milwaukee at the Al McGuire Center at 2 p.m. Marquette hosts its first exhibition contest of the season on Monday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. against BK Poprad at the Al McGuire Center.
