Volleyball Earns Third Seed in C-USA Tournament

Marquette gets first-round bye
MILWAUKEE ? After finishing the regular season at 20-6 and 10-3 in Conference USA play, Marquette found itself in a tie for second place in the league standings with Cincinnati and TCU. After the tie-breakers were used, Marquette found itself as the third seed and will play the winner of Charlotte and Tulane at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Louisville, Ky.
Marquette, Cincinnati and TCU each went 10-3 in league play but Cincinnati was given the no. 2 seed. All three teams remained tied after the first tie-breaker was implemented, head-to-head play among tied teams. Marquette defeated TCU, 3-0; Cincinnati defeated Marquette, 3-0; and TCU defeated Cincinnati, 3-1 during the season. In the second tie breaker, game winning percentage amongst tied teams, Cincinnati claimed that tie breaker and the no. 2 seed. Marquette's win over TCU gave it the no. 3 seed, while the Horned Frogs earn the fourth seed.
Marquette defeated both Charlotte and Tulane during the regular year. The Golden Eagles defeated Tulane, 3-0, on November 5 and downed Charlotte, 3-1, on November 12.
In first round matches on Friday, Nov. 19, ninth-seeded East Carolina meets eighth-seeded Houston at 1 p.m. EST, 12th-seed DePaul plays fifth-seeded Memphis at 3 p.m. EST, the 10th seed USF plays seventh-seed Saint Louis at 6 p.m. EST and 11th-seed Charlotte meets sixth seed Tulane at 8 p.m.
The quarterfinal matchups feature top-seed and tournament host Louisville taking on the winner of East Carolina and Houston at 1 p.m. EST, fourth-seed TCU meeting DePaul or Memphis at 3 p.m. EST, second-seed Cincinnati playing USF or Saint Louis at 6 p.m. EST, and Marquette facing Charlotte or Tulane at 8 p.m. EST.
The semifinals are Sunday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. EST. The tournament title match is set for Monday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. EST in Louisville, Ky.
