Men's basketball opens exhibition season Wednesday
11/2/2004 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
The game is the first official men?s contest in the facility?s 4,000-seat arena and tickets were distributed free of charge to Marquette students and others who made the McGuire Center possible.
?When we had a chance to add a game that wasn?t originally planned, we decided to play it in the McGuire Center,? said Crean. ?I think it?s a great reward and tribute to all the people of the Marquette community ? students, administration and supporters ? who made this facility possible.?
Lewis is coached by first-year head coach and former Marquette assistant Kyle Green. Green is the fourth Marquette assistant during Crean?s tenure to earn a head coaching job; joining Tim Buckley (Ball State), Darrin Horn (W. Kentucky) and Tod Kowalczyk (UW-Green Bay).
Open since October 2003, the $31-million dollar Al McGuire Center is men?s basketball?s practice facility, and also houses the program?s athletic training and strength and conditioning facilities, academic center and staff offices.
The first meeting between the two schools in men?s basketball, the game will be broadcast on the Golden Eagles? flagship station WISN 1130 AM. Steve ?The Homer? True and George Thompson will call the action.
