In front of nearly 100 spectators at Helfaer Tennis Stadium, the pair was able to keep up with the 43rd nationally ranked Sundevil tandem.
?I didn?t expect to be in the finals,? Van Lieshout said. ?You look at the schedule and it?s Friday and we?re still playing and then it?s Saturday and we?re still playing. And then we were here. It?s just great.?
Delmege and Van Lieshout were able to battle back after giving up four straight sets with the score 6-2 to gain sets in a row on Columbo and Kinsella to tighten the score at 6-4. The Golden Eagles were unable to hold on, however, and were unable to capture another set.
Marquette was able to claim a victory today in the mixed doubles final. The team of Ian Kawas and fellow Golden Eagle Callan Smith defeated Ricky Servoss and Dominika Dabrowski, 8-6. This is the first mixed doubles victory for Marquette in the history of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic marks the end of the fall season for the men. They will be back in action on Jan. 19, 2005 when they host UIC.
