Marquette Wins Exhibition Opener, 68-41

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team opened its exhibition season with a 68-41 victory of BK Poprad tonight at the Al McGuire Center.
Christina Quaye led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 17 points. Carolyn Kieger added eight assists for Marquette.
Marquette went on a 15-0 run early in the first half to build its lead to 14 to make the score 19-5 with 11:51 remaining in the first half. The run was highlighted by Kieger's three point play. Kieger had seven of her 13 points during the run.
Marquette built its lead to 18 at the end of the first half when the teams entered the locker room with Marquette holding a 34-16 advantage. Marquette used a balanced scoring attack with seven players scoring in the first half.
The Golden Eagle defense shut down BK Poprad as they held BK Poprad scoreless for 13 minutes--a period that spanned the first and second half. Marquette scored the first 12 points of the second half and never looked back.
With its first exhibition game in the books, Marquette will return to practice until Sunday when it will play its final exhibition game against the Wisconsin AAU All-Stars at 2 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
