Men's basketball set for Wisconsin

December 10, 2004 - Marquette will take on state rival Wisconsin for the 111th time at the Bradley Center on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The two teams first played in 1917.
Saturday's game will be broadcast around the state by CBS 58, beginning with the pre- game show at 7:00 p.m. Steve "The Homer" True and George Thompson will call the game action.
Dan Needles and Jim McIlvaine will call the radio broadcast on WISN 1130 AM beginning at 7:10 p.m. with the pre-game show.
The Badgers are Marquette?s most common opponent and currently lead the series, winning 60 times to the Golden Eagles? 50 wins.
In games played in Milwaukee, Marquette is 36- 25. Four games in the series have seen overtime (MU is 3-1 in such games), but none since 1973.
Wisconsin won the first ever meeting 15-14 in Madison on Dec. 19, 1917. Marquette?s first win in the series came in Madison on Jan. 3, 1923 when Marquette pulled out a 9-8 decision.
The teams began meeting every year from 1922-1954 and then resumed the series in 1958 and have played every year since. The teams played each other twice in a season 34 times, most recently in the 1989-90 season.
Marquette is currently riding a 11 game Bradley Center winning streak and has opened the season 8-0 for the ninth time in school history and the second time during Head Coach Tom Crean?s tenure.
