December 6, 2004 ? Marquette great Dwyane Wade will be honored in a ceremony held prior to tip of the Golden Eagles? home game on Tuesday night against South Dakota State. Wade?s team, the Miami Heat, will face the Milwaukee Bucks at the Bradley Center on Wednesday night.
"It will be a tremendous honor to have Dwyane there tomorrow night. It is the first time he will see the team play in person, and the first time he has been in the Bradley Center for a Marquette game since he left," said head coach Tom Crean. "He has watched the team play on television, but this is the first time he will be here to see them play. He did so much for this program, not only as a player, but certainly for the way he did it as a person. The world is figuring it out, they are seeing the things he is doing as a person first hand."
One of the most decorated players in Marquette Basketball history, Dwyane Wade had a profound and successful impact during his three-year affiliation with the Golden Eagles' program. Wade?s unbelievable play during his final season, 2002-03, resulted in a myriad of national recognition. He was named a first team Associated Press All-American, the school's first since 1978, one of five finalists for the Wooden Award, and also selected Conference USA?s Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Wade still holds the school single season scoring record with 710 points and finished his career ranked among Marquette?s all-time leaders in points, blocks and steals.
Chosen by the Miami Heat with the fifth pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft, Wade led the Heat to the second round of the 2004 NBA Playoffs.
One of the NBA?s brightest young stars, Wade?s first year in the NBA was culminated by a selection to the 2004 United States Olympic Team.
Wade currently ranks sixth in the NBA in scoring (24.4 ppg) and fifth in assists (7.5 apg), and earlier this season was selected as the Eastern Conference?s Player of the Week.
