Marquette to Retire Doc Rivers' Jersey

Marquette University will retire the jersey of former standout Glenn ?Doc? Rivers during a halftime ceremony on Saturday.? Rivers played three years at Marquette before being drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the 1983 NBA Draft.?
A 1982 Converse All American, Rivers ranks third all-time at Marquette in steals, sixth in assists and 23rd in scoring, with 1,234 career points.? He still holds the freshman season records for points, scoring average, field-goals made, field-goal percentage and steals.
After three successful years at Marquette, Rivers moved on to the NBA. He averaged 5.7 assists per game over his 13-year career. In 1988, he was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team. As the head coach of the Orlando Magic, Rivers was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2000. He led the Magic to three consecutive postseasons.
Rivers was recognized by Marquette with the Young Alumnus Award in 2000.
A 1985 graduate in political science, Rivers will become only the sixth player in the program?s history to receive the honor, joining Don Kojis, George Thompson, Dean Meminger, Butch Lee and Bo Ellis.
