Smale Named All-Region; Trio Named Academic All-Region

MILWAUKEE ? Senior Lindsay Smale was named third-team All-Great Lakes region by Soccer Buzz.
Smale was the heart of the Marquette defense in 2003. Serving as central defender and sweeper, Smale led MU's defense, allowing 91 shots on goal all season (4.6 per match), while taking 118 of its own. The Golden Eagles had a 0.91 goals against average for the season, the third best total in the league. Smale was honored by Conference USA as a first-team all-league selection following the regular season and was named Third-Team All-Great Lakes by the NSCAA.
"Lindsay had an outstanding senior season," head coach Markus Roeders said. "She played at a high level all year and provided great leadership for our team. She deserve a lot of credit for our team's success this past fall."
Additionally, Smale was named to the NSCAA Scholar Athlete All Region team, along with teammates Anne Ioder, a senior midfielder, and Kristen Jensen, a senior midfielder.
Ioder was placed on the first-team Scholar All-North/Central Region team, while Smale and Jensen were named to the second team.
