Golfers Finish Fourth in Big Red Classic

OCALA, Fla. ? Marquette, as a team, fired a 298, the second lowest total in the final round. As a result, the Golden Eagles moved up from ninth to a fourth-place finish in the Big Red Classic in Ocala, Fla. Marquette shot a 34-over, 898, tying with Ohio for fourth. MU finished 11 strokes behind tournament winner Methodist College, who shot a collective 887.
Marquette sophomore Joe Weber moved from 12th after the second round to finish third. He shot a 70 in the final round, the second best total of the day. He finished four shots off the lead. Methodist's Adam Horton won the event with a three-under, 213. Weber's final-round 70 was a career low score and his third place finish was a career best.
Sophomore Steve Sass finished in a tie for 23rd place. He rebounded from his opening round 81 to finish with a 74. He fired a 10-over, 226, for the tournament. Sohpomore Kyle Murphy finished two shots behind Sass, in 29th place, with a 12-over, 228.
Sophomore Mark Eldredge competed as an individual for the event. He had MU's fourth-best total at 14-over, 230. His scores didn't count toward the Marquette total, however. He was competing in his first collegiate event.
Sophomore Nathan Colson finished in 50th palce with a 17-over, 233. Freshman Michael Bielawski placed 57th with a 19-over, 235.
The Golden Eagles return to action on March 20-21 with the El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, Fla.
