Golfers 11th after 18 Holes at C-USA Championships

TAMPA, Fla. - At the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla., Marquette sits in 11th place after the completion of the first round. The Golden Eagles are paced by Nathan Colson who shot a 74 in the first round. He is tied for 10th place.
Two-time defending champion TCU has jumped out to an 11-stroke lead after shooting a two-under total of 286 on the opening day of the three-day tournament. TCU's Adam Meyer sits atop the opening day leader board after firing a four-under, 68. His teammate, Colby Beckstrom is just one stroke behind him with a three-under, 69.
Houston leads a group of four teams that are bunched up behind TCU. The Cougars are nine-over at 297, one stroke ahead of Southern Miss, who shot a 10-over 298. UAB sits in fourth place at 300, 12 strokes above par. Charlotte is one shot behind, after firing a 13-over total of 301.
Louisville (304), East Carolina (305), USF (305), Tulane (308) and Memphis (308), respectively, held down spots 6-10 on the day, while Marquette (309), Cincinnati (316), Saint Louis (317) and DePaul (322) stand in spots 11-14.
Marquette sophomore Kyle Murphy holds the second lowest card for an MU golfer, finishing with a 77 (30th place). Sophomore Joe Weber is one stroke behind, in a log-jam for 41st. Sophomore Steve Sass is in 57th with a total of 80. Freshman Michael Bielawski rounds out the Marquette squad with an 82 (62nd place).
The teams play 18 holes on Tuesday before a final round on Wednesday. Tee times both days start at 7:45 a.m. (EDT).
