The Golden Eagles opened up the day downing Northwestern 3-2 in a 70 minute match. Marquette opened up 2-0 on goals from Meghan Connelly in the 12th minute and Heather Goranson in the 15th minute. Northwestern evened the score prior to halftime with scores in the 16th and 33rd minute. Ashley George scored the match winner in the 49th minute on a long range shot. MU outshot the Wildcats, 6-2.
After a five minute break, Marquette met a Wis.-Milwaukee team that had yet to play. Although the Golden Eagles had numerous chances, they couldn't find the back of the net. MU outshot UWM 8-5 on the day in a physical match with UWM racking up 21 fouls to MU's 10.
"We are pleased to score three goals against a good Northwestern squad," head coach Markus Roeders said. "The windy, cool weather conditions, plus playing on field turf, proved to be an added challenge, but our team responded well. We continue to see improvement in our play and physically we competed as well as we have all spring season."
Marquette wraps up its spring season on Friday, April 30 against the Madison Capital Elite U18 team at 5:45 and the Chicago Cobras of the W-League at 7:30 at Valley Fields. On Saturday, May 1, MU hosts an alumni team at noon.
