The 33-year-old Green is the eighth head coach in the 57-year history of Lewis men's basketball. He replaces Jim Whitesell, who resigned in April to become head coach at Loyola University Chicago, and inherits a program that has reached the NCAA Division II Championship tournament five times and averaged 20 victories the past seven seasons.
"My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to continue Lewis University's outstanding men's basketball tradition," Green said. "People are what make universities special, and there is no doubt that Lewis has an unbelievable track record of great administrators, coaches, staff and players.
"I have been very fortunate to have worked alongside great head coaches in Tom Crean (Marquette) and Greg McDermott (Northern Iowa)," Green continued. "I certainly owe them a great debt of gratitude for all they have taught me about coaching and leading championship teams.
"I cannot wait for the opportunity to put all I have learned to use at Lewis, and I look forward to the challenge of coaching in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the top NCAA Division II conference in the country," Green added.
Green was Marquette's recruiting coordinator and was involved with game preparation, individual instruction and administrative responsibilities. He helped lead the 2003-04 Golden Eagles to a 19-12 record and a spot in the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals.
Green joins Tim Buckley (Ball State), Tod Kowalczyk (UW-Green Bay) and Darrin Horn (Western Kentucky) as assistant coaches under Tom Crean who have gone on to get head coaching jobs.
