The Marquette golf team begins its 2004-05 season with a tournament it has played in regularly. Marquette will be part of the field at the John Piper Intercollegiate in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Tournament Format and Field
Three 18-hole rounds will complete the 2004 John Piper Intercollegiate. The first and second rounds will be held back-to-back on Monday, September 13. The final round will be held on Tuesday, September 15.
Typically, the John Piper Intercollegiate brings some of the best teams in the midwest. Marquette will be in a 14 team field that will compete for the title. Teams will field five golfers with the four best scores of each round going toward the team score.
The Stone Ridge Golf Club
The Stone Ridge Golf Club is an 18 hole course that was designed by Arthur Hills. The greens are relatively small in size and have moderate undulation. The layout is links-style, with open fairways which, like the greens, are also undulating. Water comes into play on six or seven holes in the form of ponds.
The course features some challenging par threes, with two each on the front and back nine. The 200-yard par three fifth is a difficult hole to get the right distance. It is the longest par three on the course.
The course finished with the 510-yard par five 14th, followed by a par four, a par three and two par fours, with the finishing hole measuring 450 yards.
