MILWAUKEE ? Senior setter Sarah Vernon was named Conference USA Setter-of-the-Week, the league office announced.
Vernon was potent during a three-match tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich., leading Marquette to a 2-1 record. She had 138 assists, averaging 12.55 per game during the tournament, and had 27 kills in the three matches.
?She was incredible. Offensively, she entered a zone,? head coach Pati Rolf said. ?She?s not the typical setter with her size. She?s gaining more and more confidence in that she can distribute the ball as well as becoming a huge offensive threat. That was our goal for her this year.?
Vernon had her third and fourth double-doubles of the season. In the first match of the tournament, she set a career high with 15 kills against Maine to go with her 34 assists. She finished the tournament against Western Michigan with a season-best 56 digs to go with 13 digs.
For the year, Vernon is averaging 10.95 assists per game and 2.38 kills per game.
Marquette returns to action on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. against Boston College at the Al McGuire Center.
