Marquette Volleyball Wins Third Straight

STORRS, Conn. ? The Marquette volleyball won its third straight match, defeating Md.-Eastern Shore in three games, 30-24, 30-14, 30-16.
The Golden Eagles cruised to the win behind 13 kills from senior middle blocker Erica Heisser. It was the second straight match she led the Golden Eagles in kills. She was named the Toyota Husky Classic tournament MVP after having 29 kills over the two-matches in the tournament.
Senior Libero Erin Freer and freshman outside hitter Kimberely Todd were also named all-tournament. It was the second-such award in as many weeks for the Marquette duo. Freer had 14 digs for the match, while Todd landed 11 kills.
Freshman middle blocker Jenn Brown added a season-high 10 kills in the win.
Marquette (9-3) had a season high attack percentage, hitting 30.4 percent for the match. Marquette was at its best in game three when it hit 32.5 percent.
The Golden Eagles left little in doubt in the match. After a tightly contested first game in which Marquette won by six points, the Golden Eagles gave Md.-Eastern Shore little chance to score in the final two games, outscoring the Hawks 60-30. It was the second straight match in which Marquette had dominated its opponents in games two and three. Over the last two matches, Marquette has outscored its opponents 120-61.
Marquette is off to its best start since the 1997 season when it started 10-1.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, Oct. 1 against Cincinnati for its first Conference USA test at the Al McGuire Center at 7 p.m.
