Golfers Place Second At Cardinal Intercollegiate

Steve Sass finishes third

SIMSPONVILLE, Ky. -- The Marquette golf team held on to its second place standings after two rounds to finish in second at the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Simpsonville, Ky. It is the second finish this year in the top two for the Marquette golf team. All three team finishes have been in the top five.

The Golden Eagles finished 21 shots behind Louisville, who ran away with the event that it hosted. Marquette distanced itself from the rest of the field. The next closest team was Mississippi State, five strokes behind.

Junior Steve Sass shot a career best 68 to move into a tie for third place at four-under, 212. It was his best career finish, topping an eighth place finish at the Billiken Invitational when he was a freshman. Sass improved four spots from his 36-hole place.

Junior Kyle Murphy placed 12th with a three-over (219). Junior Joe Weber was a shot behind, tied for 13th at 220. Freshman Ted Gray and sophomore Michael Bielawski tied for 25th at 224.

The Marquette golf team returns to action on October 11-12, taking part in the Xavier Invitational.
