This past weekend, we traveled to the much warmer south. We played at Southern Miss on Friday and at Tulane on Sunday. Against Southern Miss, it took us awhile to get warmed up, but we finished the game strong. Southern Miss has a very talented young team, and they revealed to us some of the skeletons we have to get rid of. Tulane was not such a good game. We lost, and we didn't play to our potential. It was a frustrating loss, but as any one of us can attest to, the season is long from being over. This week is our opportunity to re-group and work on some of our weaknesses right now.
It was quite unfortunate that we missed the Blizzard of '05 ? walking around in shorts and t-shirts in sunny Mississippi ? but we did hear all the weather updates from family and friends back home. It was a long traveling itinerary for all of us, because we had multiple flights and bus trips. Usually on flights, we just sit quietly, like the rest of the passengers, but on our flight down to Atlanta, the pilot paid extra special attention to us!
He asked for the captain to come up on the speaker and share with the rest of the plane how our season is going. Carolyn did well (that public speaking gene she has), and she even informed everyone where the nearest exits were.
Something all of us noticed during the trip is how friendly everyone is in the south. No matter where we were, strangers were more than happy to introduce themselves and wish us luck against their teams. Most of them couldn't believe we lived in a place that often had temperatures in the single digits; some even apologized for the cold weather on our last day there (it was 43... we were still in shorts.)
This week, we are back home, against USF and UAB this Friday and Sunday. We know you all missed us, so we will see everyone at "The Al" this weekend!
Until then
